Some comments from 'new' choir members.
From Ro.... May 2013My friend Kathy and I had both really enjoyed the work done by Gareth Malone with his various choirs and fancied the idea of singing in a choir, but in particular, a "rock"- type choir.
As we were unable to find anything that met our needs at that time, I had a chat with Dave Gibbon, sowing the seeds of an Underwood Rock and Soul choir......and the rest is history! (Well, has been for the past 9 months) The things that seem to work particularly well with our choir are: i) that we have a very talented choir master, who accepts our limitations, but at the same time is able to get the best out of us to the point when he sometimes surprises even himself! ii) Glennys, our accompanist does a marvellous and patient job supporting Dave and our efforts. iii) We sing a range of songs, mainly chosen by the choir members. iv) But above all, we have such a lot of fun! v) Most members leave the weekly rehearsals 'on a high', still singing the pieces we've been working on. It's a real tonic! From Margaret.... January 2014
I have recently joined this choir and I'm enjoying it very much, I love the choice of music and the informality of the leadership. I have sung with a choir before but found it quite formal and intimidating. From Frances.... February 2014
When I was invited to join the R & S choir by two good friends, I gladly accepted. It had been almost ten years since I belonged to a fully committed choir. At choir practices I found the choir master very friendly, witty and with a good sense of humour, which makes the choir practice very enjoyable and relaxed. The members also make you feel at home and for me makes for a most pleasant evening. Joining the choir has uplifted my spirit, it fulfils the pleasure I feel in singing, More important it gives pleasure to people who enjoy listening to us. This is rewarding and thank David (Choir Master) Glennys (pianist) and all who involve themselves with the behind scenes administration and for their dedication. From Christopher .... March 2014
After joining the choir just last September I realised how awful !! .....awfully good the experience is.In fact for 2 hours on a Wednesday evening you can immerse yourself into a musical world surrounded by warm, friendly, humorous fellow singers. This experience is enhanced by a choir master who will tease from you with humour, encouragement and expertise a really fine singing performance. All this takes place in the historical setting of Underwood Church. Viva Rock'n'Soul !! |

I joined the Rock and Soul Singers in July of this year after much thought and feelings of ‘could I? dare I’ do this?
Having always loved all kinds of music I am pleased to say it just needed a nudge, well several in fact from one of the ladies who was already a member of the choir. After attending one meeting and listening to the singers I was hooked! Dave the choirmaster is very welcoming and the members of the choir extremely helpful when I need a helping hand, which I do often! There is much laughter and although I might already be prejudiced when the songs come together it is definitely a ’goose bump’ moment! Since becoming a lady of leisure I have never really felt the need to join any local club/group etc, but now I realise what I have been missing and can only say a big ‘thank you’ to the lady who finally persuaded me to join. I am absolutely loving it and Wednesday evenings cannot come around soon enough! From Julie.... January 2014
As i teenager I belonged to Cantamus and these years were some of the best of my life. I went to places i would never had gone otherwise. I have been trying to get back into singing for some time, and I am so glad i found your choir. I am really enjoying it, and hope that I will be able to sing solo again in the near future. Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome. From Susan.... February 2014
Alan my husband heard about the choir at a party and as he is a singer, thought he would like to “sound it out”. I said I would go along with him and sit at the back to see what they were about. When we arrived, the activity was at the back, so before I could say Jack Robinson, I was put into a row as part of the choir. I don’t read music but enjoy singing, although I don’t regard myself as having a “choir inspired voice”. I like to think the choir is for everyone who enjoys a good sing in a relaxed friendly atmosphere. From Freda.... February 2014
I'm pleased to let you know that I am really enjoying being in the choir. I particularly like having the CD of songs to practice with and also the note bashing, which I definitely need!. I think the choice of songs is good and find myself singing along afterwards. Just very sorry I will be on holiday for the concert but hope it won't be too long before the next one comes along. |
